Plans for this summer

I do keep neglecting this little blog. And i don't know why.

Anyway. I'm going to be having one hell of a busy summer. I'll be going to see Tori at both of her London shows at the start of July, then pretty much as soon as i'm back i'm heading down to the Oxegen festival to see Tori for a 3rd time, and i'll also be seeing Muse again, i'm more than excited about this. I think i've just started to connect with music on a level that i hadn't before. I mean it's always been an important part of my life, but now i'm just more plugged in if that makes any sense. I know people who will understand that.

Queens is going ok, it'll be great to have a break for easter. i've been neglecting my Oral classes...i just can't be fucking bothered. how lazy is that!?

Work is going really well at the min, i've got my employee evaluation coming up soon, but i don't know when. Hope it's soon, i'd like to start making moves on becoming a fits captain. I'd love it if i could keep my job going in there while i'm on my year abroad...i can only hope that'll happen.

Muse

Have you ever been anywhere and had such an amazing time that you wished you could just freeze time? Well the past three and a half hours have been like that for me, i'm just in from seeing Muse at the Odyssey. The setlist was spectacular, the performance was arrogant, and the sweat was flying. This may have been one of the best nights of my life. I'm glad that i saw them, that goes without saying. Just to be in the same room as people who are so clearly talented and are basically pure genius (Matt Bellamy)

I'm not one for jumping up and down much. Tonight that was completely shattered, i was into it. As soon as the opening notes of Take A Bow hit i was gone. The songs i NEEDED to hear were played, Plug in Baby, Time is Running Out, Knights of Cydonia, Starlight, invincible, Supermassive Blackhole, Bliss. Hearing Map of the Problematique live is something that the entire world needs to do. The piano break in Butterflies and Hurricanes is quite possibly the single most impressive thing to witness, for me it completely sums Muse up. It's delicate but forceful, it's subtle and quakes you to your bones, it's beauty at it's best.

I wish i could have froze tonight, remember each detail perfectly, sadly i can't. Got a couple of video clips, some good photos (will be a massive FLICKR update tomorrow)

My only regret is that this is my only stop on the Blackholes and Revelations tour.

Now i've gotta sleep. I have to come down now.

The Sims 2, which i was forced to buy, may be the best thing i have ever played.

I really should not have bought it, because now i will not be able to stop playing it...i have Kerry to blame.

Angels in America

This is one long watch, infact it's two long watches. It's so long that it doesn't fit onto one disc, it's two separate 3 hour pieces. I cannot express enough how important it is that everyone see this, it says so much about America in the mid 80s, so much about the political climate, the social culture, it comments on belief systems, the American health care system, civil rights, repression, gay rights, the AIDS epidemic that claimed so many lives.

I watched it in one day, almost in one sitting. It has some unconventional ideas on the nature of god, angels and heaven. It has some wonderful acting from a superb cast, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson both gave many great performances.

I guess it's rare to find something that portrays emotions you can actually believe but this does, you care about the obviously flawed characters which is the beauty of this film, it provokes emotion for characters who are far from perfect.
Mary-Louise Parker's portrail of the valium addicted Harper Pitt was simply astonishing. I found myself willing her through her illusions, wishing that she could find the peace that she wanted in Antartica.

Before watching this i had questioned if something this long would be able to hold my attention, it did. I now wish that i had the chance to see the theatre production.
